WinHIIP is a program that allows access to internal hard disk drives which have been connected via USB-to-IDE WinHIIP is a PC application used to install PS2 CD/DVD images onto a hard disk drive for use by HDLoader or one of its many derivatives including the greatly enhanced Toxic OS produced for the DMS4 Pro chip by Team Toxic. This program is a PS2 hard drive manager for Windows which allows you to format the drive, add/remove image(s), change the 'mode' settings and apply any necessary patch(s) to the game(s) you'll be using.
The primary reason for creating the application was to speed up the process of installing images onto the hard drive as installing these from the console could take up to 30 minutes where as on the PC this can be done in a couple of minutes. The hard disk drive currently has to be physically connected to your PC for the software to work. The speed is dependant on your connection method & windows configuration, it can be as slow as 1Mb/s using USB1, 12Mb/s using USB2 and up to 40Mb/s using IDE.
Writing game Image(s) to IDE Hard Drives Using a hard drive to store your homebrew and legal backups of your own original games is by far the best way to go. Not only do you not have to patch the image(s), but they also load a lot faster - that is if you're using a v3-v11 Sony PS2 (the big ones). If you're using the new v12-v15 (small) ones you're limited to using a USB Hard Drive which has lower transfer speeds. These lower speeds are due to the fact that the PS2's USB ports are v1.1 not v2.0. First you'll want to load WinHIIP. You'll be presented with a blank screen.
Next under 'Select Drive' select the Hard Drive you wish to turn into a PS2 hard drive. Once you've selected the drive the option to format it is aviaible. Select that option. Leave the settings are they are and click on 'okay'. WinHIIP will now format the drive. Now you have a PS2 formatted drive. Next pick 'Add Images' and select the image(s) you wish to install.
Once you've done this a list of them will come up. Click on 'Start' and it will write the image(s) to your PS2 formatted hard drive. When it's done you can select an image using the check box and click on 'edit' to edit the game's name and the HDLoader mode you wish to use.
Modes are required for some games to work. Most games are compatible from the get go, but there will be a few you will need to set the compatibility mode for.
Another option you have in WinHIIP to the ability to apply a PPF patch to the image. Some games require a patch to boot from a hard drive. Final Fantasy XII is a prime example of this as you'll need to patch it before you can actually play the game. The license of this software is Freeware, you can free download and free use this cd utility software.
I've been playing about with this bit of software, and first impressions are pretty good. I've got a 120 GB Maxtor DiamondMax-9 2MB Cache drive in a chipped PAL V7 PS2. It installs imports and domestic games ok, though I understand it'll only support domestic games without a mod chip.

To copy a disc seems to take 8-9 minutes a gig, and load times I'd estimate at about 3 or 4 times quicker (based on Japanese GT3 A Spec), I'd think different games will give different results. All the games I've tried so far have installed and played fine, the only bug I've seen is that the installer sometimes reports there isn't enough disc space. Try it again immediately afterwards and it's fine. Installation is dead easy, just a matter of selecting the install option and inserting the disc.
To play a game you simply select it from the menu. I'd say it's definitely worth the outlay, simply to have all your games available without needing to handle and scratch your originals. It'll not unfortunately work with online play or PS1 titles, which is a shame, but I'd give it 8/10 based on what it can do. Regards Marty. Only games you can't install (as long as you have a modded ps2) are dvd9 games such as Xenosaga and ps1 games. Theres also a small list of ps2 games that won't install such as ffxi (at first i assumed that any games which allowed you to install to an official ps2 hdd would fail but winning eleven 7i installed perfectly so go figure;) ) install times vary - just taken 75 seconds to install shikigame no shiro, 3 mins for psyvariar but 15 mins to install ESPgaluda using same hdd as marty (matrox diamond9 120gb with 2meg cache) but wish i had bought the 8mb cache version now.
Hdd runs fairly loud but not distracting me too much loading times are great - we7i loads within 15-20 seconds, then a match loads within 10 seconds with next to no loading pauses will update more later. Have read a few negative comments about using the Sony PS2 HDD with the HDLoader (something to do with it wiping important system files, or something). You won't be able to use those 8 gig Xbox hard drives because the HDLoader doesn't support anything below 40 gig.
Have also noticed a few niggles here and there with installing games. Every now and again it'll get into a rut where it says certain games are 'not a PS2 disc' or words to that effect.
Sometimes it'll snap out of it after a reboot, sometimes it's the case that the game simply won't install. It wouldn't let me install my original copy of Wipeout Fusion for this reason so I actually had to download a group release off the net which then did work. Crazy - especially considering that Wipeout isn't even a DVD9 game.
Still an awesome product; I'm just pointing out any quirks I happen to find. What HDD are you using Iain? Also, can anyone post a picture of what the bloody rig looks like? I can't picture a big fat HDD coming out of the back of the PS2 for some reason:D Presumably it's all powered through the Network adapter and the PS2? I've got a Maxtor Diamond Plus 9 120 Gig 8meg cache jobbie on its way to me. I have the same hard drive as the one you have ordered and it works fine.
The hard drive slots inside the ps2, just remove the back cover. Will get a photo on later today.
I had a problem with entering Grand Theft.III (US) and G.Vice City (US). I managed to get round it though by editing the name in small stages, I'll see if I can get both KOF2000 & 2001 in my menu. I've tested all my games now Contra - doesn't install (tried original ASIA disc and downloaded copy) Macross - installs but just a black screen when I load it (original JPN) wordsoundimageplay - crashes when choosing game mode (original JPN) I've had trouble with my HDloader disc not loading sometimes and it's a pain ejecting the disc each time after loading a game to cut down on the noise from the PS2. I'd much rather get the loader program working from the memory card but I'd need a better mod chip for that:. Hi Guys I've just set this up last night with my chipped PS2 a Maxtor Diamond Plus 120GB hard drive and a downloaded version of HD Loader.
) to function as an Xbox 360 controller. Fifa 14 button data setup. For example, it lets you play games such as “Grand Theft Auto”, “Mafia” or “Saints Row” using a Logitech Steering Wheel. TocaEdit Xbox 360 Controller Emulator 3.2.9.81 (2015-10-04) “Xbox 360 Controller Emulator” allows your controller ( gamepad, joystick, wheel, etc.
I set the HD to master, connected it all up fine, started up the HD Loader software, formatted my hard disk - all ok. But when I try and copy a game (have tried several) it asks me to insert a disk - which I do - and then it says checking CD / DVD and stays on that 0% position for a very long time.
This is a brand new PS2 and every game plays fine on it. I've also tried using a downloaded version of HD Advance and get exactly the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong here? Is there any way to reformat the hard disk and try again??
Any help very much appreciated. I've spent all morning reading up on this (thank god my boss is away) and while no one has the same problem as me the solution I am going to try is: 1. Using dms-hdd-format in my PS2 to re-format my PS2 and try again from there - apparently this tool is better than using HD Loader to format your HDD (so say some random users on warez sites etc) 2. Use hdldump (thanks for your link) but I've read the networking side of things is slow so will remove the hdd from PS2 and put it as SLAVE on my PC - copy all my games and then put back in PS2.
Not sure if you can just put your PS2 disk in your PC drive and copy it from there or whether you have to make an iso first. It is almost exactly the same setup as I have except that I have the original HDLoader disc and not a DL one. Really can't see where things are going wrong. You'll all be pleased to hear that I made some progress with this stupid hard disk of mine - first I stuck it in my PC and formatted it, then stuck it back in the PS2, formatted it again and ran hd loader. Got the same problem with it getting stuck at the reading disc stage and then doing nothing. So then I decided to give hdldump a go by connecting the hdd as SLAVE to my PC - I copied my original games from the DVD drive to the hard disk, stuck the hdd back in my PS2, loaded up HD Loader and there before me was a beautiful looking games list. And yep they all work.
Pro Net Downloads Hdloader Installer
Have since tried using HD Loader again and it still gets stuck on the reading disk stage.Groan. So looks like I will have to take the hdd out of my PS2 and into my PC each time I want to copy a gmae to the HDD - oh well, not the end of the world: ). Did you do anything special to get Psyvariar working? I've just tried it with hdldumb, and I get the same thing as when I install it directly with HDLoader - just gives a black screen.
I was a bit premature with Psyvariar - I've had it start up twice out of about a dozen times now (not doing anything different each time) but it hangs shorlty after and there is no sound at all) - Rez works perfectly every time. I will have a play around today and see if I can find any methods behind this Psyvariar madness. Transferring the HDD from PS2 to PC and back is surely too much hassle!!?
Well yes and no, if you're just loading images you've already made onto an empty drive then it's far quicker than doing them via the drive. I had to restore 30gigs worth of data to the drive after a re-format which would have taken over an hour via the ps2 drive but only took 10 -15 minutes via the pc. As you say I wouldn't use this method to just transfer one or two games. I did try FAPlink as well but that was just too slow in transferring data via the network adapter. I keep getting it constantly. It won't copy games either, just hangs at the 'checking disc' screen.
So I've resorted to using FAPLink at the moment, which seems to be working (just tried Dodonpachi and that worked fine), but it takes bloody ages, would I be better off sourcing HD Loader instead? Had the exact same problems.
Got a yarr'd HD Advance over the weekend and it lets me copy.everything. over.
It also reads HD Loader partitions so there's no need to format the drive again. One thing to bear in mind though is you have to take out the disc as soon as the splash screen appears (then close the lid again) Give it a go, can't hurt! PS - I left your iPod remote at home this morning (mad rush to get to work. Woke up late;p) Oh, I when I say.everything. I mean DVD and CD games.
(AFAIK HD Loader had issues with CD games?) sadly Gradius V doesn't run, or Psyvariar.:(. Rather strange i seen so many people mention about their downloaded version of hd advance and hd loader and their posts are okay to stay If you note 2 posts about yours, Neil asks people not to post any more about the downloading of copyrighted software. We could go back through and delete people's previous references, but surely Neil's request should have been enough to prevent it happening in future. Seemingly not.
Just because people already did post, doesn't mean to say it's ok for everyone else. Please direct me to which Burnout thread has similar piracy references in it so I can make similar comments there. If anyone else sees any piracy references, please contact a moderator or report the post via the forum controls. Many thanks Charlesr. From the rules: - Do not actively seek sources for Roms, Isos, or Emulators via other members of the forum or Ntsc-Uk itself, we will neither accept nor tolerate any attempts to ask for or provide information which results in the theft of someone else's intellectual property, and such actions will result in an immediate ban. I've looked at all of the posts you've mentioned above, and none violate the rules. No one is asking how to burn an ISO of the game, no one is providing links to warez, no one is giving information about how to obtain warez.
Building construction estimate software free download. All they've done, stupidly maybe, is admit they've played a warez copy, something I'd prefer people didn't do. The posts that were edited or removed in the HDLoader thread did break the above rule. If the BO3 stuff had of done the same, likewise they would have been edited.
Official PS2 HDLoader Thread What is the HDLoader? Seems to be one of the top questions going around. I think I will wait a while to get this, but I am sure I will get it someday.
Maybe when the PS3 is about out Ill make sure to have it so i can have all of my games on my ps2 hd and can store the games away so when i need to get my ps2 on it will all be right there. Btw As you can see though, my 120GB Drive (Maxtor) only shows up as 114GB. On top of that, HDLOADER Only lets you use 111GB of it That is normal. The 114GB is actual size. They say 120GB but that is when it is counted that 1024kB = 1GB when it is realistically used as 1000kB = 1GB or something like that.anyways, the 114 is normal.
The other 3GB is probably part of the formatting the program does to the HD. Perhaps the PS2 needs 3GB of it for special files for it to be compatible.something like that.Just note nothing is wrong. Someone wanted to know how it actually worked, and if the HDD needed some sort of casing. The HDD looks like: Top Bottom You dont need any sort of casing for it, you just need to pop the Network Adapter onto the end of it like in the picture. From there, just slide it into the PS2 Tighten the 2 screws with a coin, and turn it on. Also to note, installing games, DVD ROM games (Silver) will install in full GB sizes. Meaning 1GB, 2GB, 3GB, or 4GB.
Problem is, it seems that it really uses that much space. So a 1.5GB game will say '2GB', which just means they'll be eating up quite a bit of data if you love a few hundred MB per game. CD Games (Blue) will install in the actual size. 103MB, 342MB, 502MB, etc. I installed a few more games (Installing GGXX Right now), and was surprised to see just how much space they took up.
Stuff like GGXX is using 3GB!, Others like britneys dance beat (Dont wanna hear it! - It was something like $2.99 at target - still, its an incredibly crappy game for the price ) was 4GB, while frequency was around 500MB I believe. If a game is too scratched, it will say 'An error occured while reading the data', but will also give you an option to 'Continue' the copying process, so as long as that one damaged file it couldnt read, doesnt get called on, it should work fine 'Britney' had about 1 second of load time, Stuntman about 9 (going into the 'Stunt Creator' mode - Not sure what the averages were for that, but I believe it was close to 45 seconds for Stuntman. Seagates are the other recommended drive (First the maxtors, then the seagates), as for the over. Not that anyone cares, but can I take my 120GB HD from my PC and format it on the PS2? I have been meaning to get another HD for storage and 250GB will suffice on my PC for now So what do I need to do to my HD from my PC?
